Iconic 'Indiana Jones' hat sold for ₹5.2cr at auction
The iconic brown felt fedora worn by Hollywood actor Harrison Ford in the 1984 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom has been sold for a staggering $630,000 (₹5.2cr) at an auction. The hat, which was expected to attract between $250,000 and $500,000, was part of the late stunt performer Dean Ferrandini's personal collection. Ferrandini had also worn the hat while doubling for Ford in the film.
Fedora's design and creation details
The fedora was created by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London and is made of sable-colored rabbit felt, reported AP. According to Propstore, the company that conducted the auction, keeping it in place during filming was a constant challenge. To ensure a snug fit, foam pieces were inserted into the hat. The hat's high auction price underscores its cultural significance and enduring appeal among fans of the Indiana Jones franchise.
Other notable items sold at the auction
In addition to the Indiana Jones fedora, other notable items were also sold at the auction. An Imperial scout trooper's white "biker scout" helmet from the 1983 film Return of the Jedi fetched $315,000 (over ₹2.6cr). A ghost costume worn by stars in the 1996 horror film Scream was sold for $270,900 (over ₹2.2cr). These sales highlight the enduring popularity of film and TV memorabilia among collectors and fans.
