Happy birthday, Catherine O'Hara: Revisiting our favorite Moira Rose moments
Hollywood veteran Catherine O'Hara has turned 69! An artist who has been active in the industry since 1974, she has starred in notable projects such as Beetlejuice, Home Alone, After Hours, among others. Her character as Moira Rose on Schitt's Creek, however, is a rare beauty of its own—she portrays a funny and unabashedly real person in the sitcom. We revisit our favorite moments.
When Rose is presumed dead by the media
In Season 4, a Twitter rumor erupts that Rose is dead, and naturally, the internet begins wondering about her whereabouts. When she realizes that a reporter has turned up at the motel to interview her, she abandons her sophisticated composure and is overwhelmed by full-blown panic, looking for the "perfect" dress and the perfect wig to announce, "Hey! I am still alive."
When Rose became the face of Herb Ertlinger's fruit wine
In Season 1, when Rose and the rest of the Rose family were still settling in at the motel, she was offered the chance to become the brand ambassador of Herb Ertlinger's fruit wine. While Rose is tempted by the employment opportunity, she is unable to crack the perfect take, and instead, gets way too drunk, only to eventually deliver a whacky monologue.
When she accompanied a pregnant Jocelyn to the hospital
Another hysterical moment is when Rose finds herself accompanying her pregnant friend Jocelyn to the hospital. Jocelyn is about to go into labor, so naturally, the tensions are running high. However, hilarity ensues when Rose sits in the backseat of the car and Jocelyn drives herself to the hospital! It's ironic how Jocelyn is in labor, but it's Rose whose "nerves are fried."
Her undying love for her innumerable wigs!
This is not so much a moment as it is a defining trait of Rose's personality! From the very first episode itself, we are told that Rose—who plays an erstwhile television/movie star—loves her wigs probably as much as she loves her own family. Her motel room is full of different varieties of wigs, and she even has names for some of them! Beat that.
