Aishwarya is gorgeous, Rajkummar sweet but 'Halka Halka' is ruined
Take a popular number, mix it with hurting beats, throw in tons of glamor, and voila there you have- a memorable song ruined by Bollywood. The makers of 'Fanney Khan' have followed the same formula with 'Halka Halka' song starring Rajkummar Rao and Aishwarya Rai as people falling in love. But did they really have to spoil Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's gem? Definitely not.
Thankfully, not everything is bad about new 'Halka Halka' song
Aishwarya Rai is golden in the video and completely engrossed in her fun element. Rajkummar Rao, the brilliant actor he is, reminds us with his expressions that being awestruck with Aishwarya is easy. Their chemistry is adorable too. And Aishwarya romancing Rajkummar, an actor younger than her, is such a welcome change in Bollywood. All this is perfect, only if the song is muted.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Halka Halka's suits all moods
On Internet, one can find many versions of 'Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai', none, of course, as melodious as the original one by Pakistani qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. And in the latest one, which has Amit Trivedi's music, the beautiful lyrics are missing. Was Divya Kumar's voice with heavy beats used to compensate for the lacking words? We wonder.
But why single out 'Halka Halka'? There are many more
Nothing is hurting Hindi film industry's music business, like the bad reboots of popular songs. Before 'Halka Halka', there was 'Saara Zamaana Haseeno Ka Deewana' (Kaabil), 'Oye Oye' (Azhar), 'Gulaabi Aankhein' (Noor), and 'Humma Humma' (OK Jaanu). While music directors argue remaking songs is difficult, and a way of giving tribute, leaving legendary numbers as it is would be highly appreciated by music-lovers.
