Gypsy Rose Blanchard officially files for divorce
Gypsy Rose Blanchard—convicted in the murder of her abusive mother—has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, after less than two years of marriage. The Lafourche Parish Clerk of the Court confirmed the filing and stated that it had been sent to the assigned judge for review. Blanchard announced her separation from Anderson publicly on March 28 through a statement on her private Facebook account.
'My husband and I are going through a separation...'
In her statement, Blanchard revealed: "People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents home down the bayou." Blanchard's divorce filing comes three months after her early release from prison. She served eight years of a 10-year sentence at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri for conspiring to murder her abusive mother, Clauddine "DeeDee" Blanchard, with then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn in 2015.
Heated arguments preceded Blanchard's decision to divorce
Nadiya Vizier, a tattoo artist and close friend of Blanchard's, disclosed to PEOPLE that a heated argument between the estranged couple led to their decision to end their marriage. Vizier stated, "He got in her face and screamed," adding, "Gypsy said that she was afraid he was going to hit her. He didn't — but that happened in the past with her mother." "So, her first instinct was to tighten up and be prepared."
Blanchard's brief marriage began while incarcerated
Blanchard and Anderson first met in June 2021 while she was still incarcerated, and they married in a prison ceremony in July 2022. Prior to her release, Blanchard had expressed excitement about living with Anderson—a special education teacher—but acknowledged it would be a significant change. She told the portal, "I've never lived with a man...I don't even know what it's like to live with a man."
Gypsy's father had expressed concerns about early marriage
Rod Blanchard, Gypsy's father, had previously expressed his wish for his daughter to delay marriage. In a 2023 interview, he said, "I wish she would have come home here and when her being on parole was over, live with him, just live with him, learn him." Meanwhile, following her separation from Anderson, Blanchard was seen with ex-fiance Ken Urker, who shares matching tattoos with her. Raina Williams—Urker's mother—confirmed their reconnection and stated, "Ken is just being a supportive friend."
Blanchard's life post-release and social media presence
Meanwhile, after her release, Blanchard gained a massive following on social media platforms, with over 8M followers on Instagram and nearly 10M on TikTok. She regularly posted updates with Anderson and promoted her Lifetime series, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. However, due to concerns about the impact of public scrutiny on her mental health, she decided to deactivate her TikTok and Instagram accounts last month.
