Gwyneth Paltrow's 2016 ski mishap inspires quirky musical
The immersive musical Gwyneth Goes Skiing, inspired by actor and businesswoman Gwyneth Paltrow's life, will make its US debut after two successful runs in London, reported Variety. Produced by Awkward Productions, the show will tour Utah, where Paltrow once had a skiing accident, as well as Los Angeles and New York. The musical recounts Paltrow's legal dispute with optician Terry Sanderson over a skiing collision.
Throwback: What was the skiing accident all about
Paltrow was involved in a skiing accident in 2016, at the Deer Valley Resort in Utah. The incident occurred on a beginner's slope, where Paltrow and Sanderson, a retired optometrist, collided. Sanderson alleged that Paltrow crashed into him from behind in an out-of-control manner, causing severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, four broken ribs, and lasting emotional distress. He also claimed that she left the scene without offering help, describing the event as a "hit-and-run."
'Gwyneth Goes Skiing' features star-studded cast and crew
The musical Gwyneth Goes Skiing features an incredible cast with original music by Leland, vocals by Darren Criss and Cat Cohen, and a video cameo from Trixie Mattel as Paltrow's mother Blythe Danner. Awkward Productions founders Linus Karp and Joseph Martin also star in the show, with Karp as Paltrow and Martin as Sanderson. The US tour will kick off in Utah in January 2025.
Awkward Productions plans a global tour for another show
Along with Gwyneth Goes Skiing, Awkward Productions is also planning a worldwide tour for another one of their successful shows, Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story. The production will tour Canada, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and continental Europe in association with Goudie Events. The show has Princess Diana speaking her (un)truth from heaven as she finally tries to break free from the British monarchy.
'Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story' to feature special guest
The global tour of Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story will also include a special pre-show performance by UK RuPaul's Drag Race star Pixie Polite in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. This addition to the show is sure to add an extra layer of excitement for audiences worldwide. The tour schedule includes stops in Thailand, Singapore, Australia (Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra), Canada (Toronto), and Europe (Amsterdam).
