Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt's 'Gully Boy' leaked online by Tamilrockers
Is there a way to curb piracy? This question is bothering filmmakers these days as piracy is impacting the business of every new release. And this time it is Ranveer Singh-starrer Gully Boy, which became the target of piracy. According to media reports, the Zoya Akhtar directorial, which was released on February 14, has been leaked online by infamous piracy website Tamilrockers.
'Gully Boy' isn't the only one, 'Manikarnika,' 'Uri' targeted too
Reportedly, Gully Boy was available on the website just a day after its release, and the entire movie was available for free download for users. Sadly, this isn't the first time that this website has targeted a new release. Earlier, Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, Thackeray and Uri: The Surgical Strike were also leaked within hours of their theatrical release.
The piracy giant has been banned innumerable times
Notably, the Indian judiciary system has been taking strict actions to prevent piracy. In fact, Madras High Court had put a ban on 12,000 sites in 2018 to stop piracy. However, among the banned sites, Tamilrockers alone had access to 2,000 of them. Although the piracy giant has been banned innumerable times, with every movie leak, they reportedly come with a different proxy server.
'Gully Boy' ruling BO, word of mouth may boost more
Meanwhile, Gully Boy witnessed a massive start at the box office with an incredible collection of Rs. 18.7cr on the first day, much more than expected. Bollywood trade experts predict positive word of mouth may do wonders for this musical drama in the upcoming days. However, now that the movie got leaked online, will its overall collection be affected? Let's wait and watch.
'Gully Boy' also the highest ever opener for Alia
Separately, given the stupendous start, Gully Boy has become the highest opener of 2019. Earlier, big releases like Uri and Manikarnika had witnessed an average start with their first-day collections being Rs. 8.2cr and Rs. 8.75cr, respectively. Besides, Gully Boy also became the highest ever opener for Alia. The position was earlier held by her 2015 release Shaandaar with a collection of Rs. 13.1cr.
