'Gulabi' producer lauds Huma Qureshi, calls her 'powerful hero'
Huma Qureshi, fresh off the success of her web series Maharani, recently announced her next film, Gulabi, where she'll essay an auto driver. The movie, directed by Vipul Mehta, began filming in April this year. Qureshi's eponymous character is a brave auto-rickshaw driver from Ahmedabad who dreams of pursuing quality education and inspiring others. In an interview, the film's producer, Vishal Rana, expressed his penchant for films featuring strong female leads and praised Qureshi.
Rana revealed that the movie draws from real incidents
Rana told Mid-Day, "The story is inspired by real-life incidents, not a particular person. Huma's character Gulabi, a brave auto-rickshaw driver in Ahmedabad, aspires to be educated. [In her journey of empowerment], she inspires others to get educated too." "As a producer, I believe in female-centric movies with a powerful female protagonist. I want the heroines of my movies to play women who stand against all odds and give back to society."
Qureshi's dedication to 'Gulabi' lauded by Rana
Rana revealed that Qureshi was drawn to the project instantly. "We are shooting in live locations, with real people, in extremely hot and challenging conditions, but Huma, being our powerful hero, has been braving the weather and shooting for more than 12 hours a day without any complaints." "Huma shot for a lengthy, powerful scene, and nailed it in one take. We were stunned by the range of her emotions as it moved us to tears."
Qureshi will 'create some magic on screen'
Earlier, when the movie went on floors, Rana expressed his excitement and stated: "We are thrilled to start shooting for Gulabi in Ahmedabad today." The film aims to deliver a content-driven narrative that resonates with audiences and inspires women to take control of their futures. Rana also praised Qureshi's acting skills, saying she is set "to create some magic on screen" once again.
