'Guilty Minds': Amazon Prime Video announces first legal drama
Amazon Prime Video is soon going to premiere its first-ever legal drama, titled Guilty Minds. Created and directed by Shefali Bhushan, the Hindi web series will be led by Shriya Pilgaonkar (Mirzapur) and Varun Mitra (Jalebi). It has been co-directed by Jayant Digambar Samalkar. The streaming platform shared a poster for the show to announce the venture on Monday. Here's more on this.
Why does this story matter?
Other countries have cult-classic legal dramas that focus on the intricacies of courtroom proceedings as well as presenting viewers with knowledge about legal terms (Suits, While You Were Sleeping, Rumpole Of the Bailey). However, India has had very few such shows with Your Honor (2020), Criminal Justice (2019), and Illegal (2020). Hence, Prime Video has a brilliant chance to dominate this genre.
At center are two young, ambitious lawyers
The courtroom drama will follow the lives of two young and ambitious lawyers (most likely played by Pilgaonkar and Mitra). These two will act as each other's antithesis, as one follows a virtuous path and the other doesn't have problems with mud. In the poster, we see Lady Justice's blindfold covering the eyes of six lawyers, so a lot of unlawful conduct is expected.
Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Satish Kaushik have pivotal roles
The series also stars Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Satish Kaushik, Namrata Sheth, Sugandha Garg, and Benjamin Gilani in key roles. Other cast members include Virendra Sharma, Diksha Juneja, Pranay Pachauri, Deepak Kalra, and Chitrangada Satrupa. We have also been promised cameo appearances from actors like Karishma Tanna, Shakti Kapoor, and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. Overall, the prospect of getting an Indian show focused on various cases is interesting.
On same day, 'Operation Romeo' is premiering
Produced by Karan Grover and co-produced by Antara Banerjee and Naved Farooqui, Guilty Minds premieres on Prime Video on April 22. To note, on the same day, Neeraj Pandey's crime thriller Hindi film, Operation Romeo, is also seeing a theatrical launch. But we can expect the target audience to not get affected by either production as their respective media are different.
