Grammy Awards 2022: Meet the biggest winners of the night
The Grammy Awards, moving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for the first time for its 64th edition, was held on Sunday (crack of dawn on Monday in India). As the delayed "music's biggest night" rolled out at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, there was a lot of light, good music, and epic moments. Here's a list of the biggest winners from the night.
Jon Batiste: Nominated the most, won the most
The most coveted honor of the evening, the Album of the Year, was bagged by Jon Batiste (We Are). To note, he had the most nominations (11) and won in five categories, the maximum. The other categories he grabbed awards in were Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song (Cry), Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media (Soul), and Best Music Video (Freedom).
Silk Sonic took home Song, Record of Year awards
American R&B super duo Silk Sonic picked up two huge wins with the Song and Record of the Year awards for Leave the Door Open. The duo, comprising singer Bruno Mars and rapper/singer Anderson .Paak, also took home the Best R&B Performance nod for the same song earlier in the evening. These delights came after their brilliant opening performance of their hit number, 777.
Night belonged to 'Best New Artist' Olivia Rodrigo
Arriving at the ceremony with seven nominations, Drivers License singer Olivia Rodrigo was presented with the prestigious Best New Artist award. Onstage to receive the trophy, the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series alum said, "This is my biggest dream come true." With this win, Rodrigo joined the ranks of Carly Simon, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Tom Jones, the Beatles, and Billie Eilish.
'Foo Fighters' won three awards during pre-telecast event
American rock band Foo Fighters emerged as another big winner, bagging three trophies—Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album—at the pre-show telecast. But the members were not in attendance to pick up the awards at the ceremony, which came just nine days after its drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away at 50. Eilish paid a fitting tribute to Hawkins during the event.
