    What's the story

Search engine Google on Sunday honored late Bollywood actor Farooque Shaikh on his 70th birth anniversary with a special doodle.

Shaikh is best remembered for his performances in films like 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi,' 'Chashme Buddoor,' 'Kissi Se Na Kehna' and 'Noorie.'

Born in a middle-class family in 1948, he had studied law, but eventually decided to try his hand at acting.

    A tribute

Google's tribute to Shaikh on its official doodle blog

"Today's Doodle by Nimit Malavia is a tribute to Farooque Shaikh's cinematic career in a style evocative of hand-painted movie posters of the 1970s, and especially Umrao Jaan."

"We see the wide-eyed romantic hero of the 1970's mature into a comfortingly familiar TV presence of the 1990's, bridging the gap between mainstream and art-house cinema in India along the way," Google said.

    Career

Shaikh is known for his performances in Bollywood movies

The veteran actor who started his Bollywood career in 1973 with 'Garm Hava' made a tremendous contribution to theater and TV as well.

He hosted the popular TV show 'Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai.'

His last film was 'Club 60.' Before that, he was seen playing the role of a father to Ranbir Kapoor's character in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.'
