Vijay's 'GOAT' fails Monday test, sees 50% drop in collections
Vijay's latest action film, GOAT, has experienced a significant decrease in box office collections on its first Monday. The movie, directed by Venkat Prabhu, features Vijay in dual roles as a father and son. Despite the initial excitement among fans, the film's earnings have dropped by over 50% on Monday, raising concerns about its overall performance.
'GOAT' fails to pass crucial Monday test
GOAT had a promising start, with its domestic box office collection reaching ₹34 crore on Sunday across all languages. However, it experienced a sharp decline on Monday, earning only ₹14 crore. This drop indicates that the film has failed to pass the crucial Monday test at the box office, which is often seen as a predictor of a movie's overall success.
Dip in earnings across all markets
Although the language-wise breakdown of Monday's earnings is yet to be determined, it is likely that the film's performance has dipped in all markets. This includes not only the Hindi and Telugu markets but also the Tamil market, which was the film's primary target. GOAT now has until Friday to recover from this drop before facing competition from new releases.
'GOAT' faces stiff competition from upcoming releases
GOAT will face competition from several new releases this Friday, including Hansal Mehta's investigative thriller The Buckingham Murders, which stars Kareena Kapoor Khan. In addition to new releases, the film also has to contend with the continued success of Amar Kaushik's horror-comedy Stree 2. The movie, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, earned ₹3.25 crore on Monday, its 26th day at the box office.
What is 'GOAT' all about?
In GOAT, Vijay portrays a field agent and spy who has successfully completed over 65 missions in his career. The film is a period science fiction movie with an ensemble cast that includes Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Ajmal Ameer, Vaibhav, Laila, Mohan, Aravind Akash, and Ajay Raj.
