Vijay's 'GOAT' sees 43% drop; earns ₹24cr on Day 2
The Tamil science fiction action drama GOAT, starring Vijay, experienced a significant dip in its box office collections on the second day of release. After a strong opening day with earnings of ₹43cr, the film saw a 43% drop on Friday (September 6), bringing in ₹24.7cr. Despite this decrease, the movie has managed to gross double digits in theaters and accumulate ₹68.7cr over two days.
'GOAT' underperforms compared to Vijay's previous film 'Leo'
In comparison to Vijay's previous film Leo, which crossed the ₹200cr mark at the box office on its second day, GOAT is not performing as expected. The film, directed by Venkat Prabhu and featuring an ensemble cast including Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary among others, was reportedly made with a budget of ₹400cr. Despite its current earnings and digital rights being sold for ₹30cr, it still needs to gross over ₹300cr more to become profitable, per reports.
'GOAT' surpasses 'Indian 2' and 'Maharaja' in earnings
Despite the drop in collections, GOAT has become the highest-grossing Tamil film on its opening and second day this year. It has surpassed Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 and Vijay Sethupathi's Maharaja in terms of box office earnings. The production and distribution company behind the film, AGS Entertainment, reported that it grossed over ₹126.32cr globally on its first day. Notably, GOAT is Vijay's penultimate film before he transitions into a full-time political career.
