DD National to premiere Ananth Mahadevan's 'Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol'
Filmmaker-actor Ananth Mahadevan's Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol is set to arrive on DD National on August 15 at 11:00am. To recall, the film was in the news earlier this year when Mahadevan had accused Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies of seemingly being inspired by it. Despite the accusations, the writer of Laapataa Ladies, Biplab Goswami, had defended his work, asserting its originality.
The story of 'Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol'
The film is about a mix-up at a railway station with two veiled brides. Since they are adorned in similar outfits and their faces are covered, their respective husbands get confused and the wives reach different homes, instead of the ones they were meant for! The 1999 film starred Neha Pendse, Joy Sengupta, and Hemant Pandey, and aimed to attack social evils like patriarchy and lack of female agency in society.

Controversy: 'Beginning and many incidents are the same'
To recall, during the controversy, Mahadevan said, "I have seen Laapataa Ladies, and the beginning as well as many incidents are the same." However, Goswami defended himself, saying, "I wrote the synopsis a decade ago. My story, script, dialogues, characterization, and scenes are all 100 percent original. I have not been inspired by any story, movie or novel. I have not watched Ananth Mahadevan ji's movie." LL is streaming on Netflix.
