After several postponements, Telugu film Ghani finally got a release date. As per latest announcement, the sports drama will hit the marquee on April 8. For now, the Varun Tej-led film faces no competition at the box office. As far as release dates getting changed is concerned, Sivakarthikeyan's upcoming Tamil film Don has been postponed. It will now release on May 13.

Here's why 'Ghani's release was delayed

Ghani was initially planned for a February 25 release. But to avert clash with Pawan Kalyan-Rana Daggubati's biggie called Bheemla Nayak, which released on the same day, Ghani makers delayed its premiere. Had it released in February, Ghani would have also faced competition from the dubbed versions of two other money-churners, Valimai and Gangubai Kathiawadi. So, postponing its release was indeed a smart move.

Ghani, directed by Kiran Korrapati, co-stars Saiee Manjrekar, Jagapathi Babu, Upendra, and Suniel Shetty in pivotal roles, while Naveen Chandra will be the main antagonist. The film has received a UA certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Ghani marks Tej's first sports film in which he will be a boxer. Renaissance Pictures and Allu Bobby Company are jointly bankrolling it.

Why was the release date of 'Don' changed?

Coming to Don, it was to release on March 25. But since Lyca Productions, producer of this Tamil film, is the distributor of SS Rajamouli-directed RRR in Tamil Nadu, which is a March 25 theatrical outing, makers of Don decided to stall its release to avoid production shenanigans. Directed by Cibi Chakravarthi, Don also stars SJ Suryah, Priyanka Arul Mohan, and Samuthirakani.

Here's what the makers said of the delay

Makers of Don announced the news in a note that said, "We would like to start by thanking Mr.Sivakarthikeyan for his humble gesture in helping us postpone the release date of Don, as the previously planned release date coincided with the release date of RRR (25th March 2022), and both the films are our esteemed projects." Don is Sivakarthikeyan's fifth project as a producer.
