'Game of Thrones', on HBO, has escalated from being the most popular television show on earth to become a cultural phenomenon. After season 7's revelatory final episode, hordes of fans eagerly awaited the final season. While HBO had earlier announced 'GoT' would air during the first half of 2019, a tweet on Tuesday confirmed the release month for season 8. Read about it here.
When will the show release?
According to the official tweet, 'Game of Thrones' season 8 will air in April 2019. Since no dates have been specified yet, the beginning of the end is about four and a half to five months away. Notably, this release schedule brings the show back in line with season 4,5 and 6 premieres. Thankfully, they are not pushing a July premiere like season 7.

The tweet's message along with the video gives fans a hint of what to expect from season 8. It says every battle, betrayal, risk, fight, sacrifice, and death have all been for the throne. These words are accompanied by a montage of shots from previous seasons, showing various pivotal moments all leading up to the only battle that matters, the one against White Walkers.

While showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff initially planned to conclude season 8 with 3 theatrical releases, they instead shot six episodes with an average runtime of 80 minutes each. They also teased the beginning of season 8 mirroring GoT's first episode where King Robert Baratheon rode to Winterfell. Season 8 will see Daenerys Targaryen ride to Winterfell, preparing for war against White Walkers.
What can we expect from season 8?
While Benioff and Weiss have been secretive about the final season's details, Kit Harrington and Peter Dinklage, who play Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister, respectively, have spilled secrets. Dinklage revealed that season 8 had massive battle scenes and Kit revealed the script made him cry twice. We can expect a lot of deaths as our favorite characters unite against White Walkers to defend Westeros.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
'GoT' fans might be slightly saddened as their favorite show is ending and the end is getting closer. However, there is good news, as HBO has approved a spin-off prequel, co-written by Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin, to begin production next year.
