'Game Changer' makers take legal action against piracy, leaks
What's the story
The makers of Ram Charan's latest film Game Changer have filed a complaint with the Cybercrime department after a high-definition (HD) version of the movie was leaked online soon after its release on January 10.
The team has identified some 45 people suspected of this piracy act.
These suspects had allegedly demanded money from the production team, threatening to leak the movie otherwise.
Pre-release issues
'Game Changer' faced pre-release threats and plot leak
The suspects reportedly used social media and messaging platforms to threaten the production team of Game Changer.
Besides the movie leak, critical plot details were shared online just two days before its release.
A cybercrime investigation is now underway to ascertain whether these people acted independently or as part of a larger conspiracy.
The evidence provided by the filmmakers will be crucial in this investigation.
Box office impact
'Game Changer' box office performance impacted by piracy
Despite the piracy issues, Game Changer was able to gross over ₹97cr within its first four days of release. However, it missed hitting the ₹100cr mark by Day 4 as ticket sales dipped with the weekdays approaching.
The film opened with ₹51cr on its first day, followed by ₹21.6cr on Day 2 and ₹15.9cr on Day 3.
Makers believe piracy affected its box office prospects.
Critical reception
'Game Changer' received mixed reviews despite technical excellence
Directed by Shankar and starring Kiara Advani opposite Charan, Game Changer is a political thriller that sees Charan in a double role as a political leader and an IAS officer.
The film has received mixed reviews but has been lauded for its performances and technical brilliance.
Despite the hurdles posed by piracy, the team is optimistic about its box office run.
