'Fukrey 3' finally starts production, Varun Sharma shares update
When director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba brought Fukrey in 2013, it opened in cinema halls with an astounding response and since then, this comedy franchise didn't have to look back. Even the sophomore movie, which came out in 2017, had performed excellently. So, the question was, when will the third film hit us? Thankfully, following COVID-19-led delays, the production for Fukrey 3 has now begun.
What was the announcement all about?
Although reports about the commencement of the shooting have been doing the rounds for a while now, official confirmation came from one of the lead stars of the franchise, Varun Sharma. Taking to his social media handles on Thursday, the actor wrote, "Shuru Hogayi!! [and it begins] Jai Maata Di," alongside an image of a clapboard. Farhan Akhtar-Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment is producing it.

Previously, franchise regular Richa Chadha dropped a hint
The beginning of the shoot comes in accordance with previous reports that stated filming would begin in the first week of March. Bollywood Life had quoted another recurring lead actor of the franchise, Richa Chadha, to report the same. "I'm sure people are going to like the movie," she said, adding, "We're hoping to wrap up the shoot soon and get the movie [ready]."
COVID-19 played foul to shooting plans earlier
Fukrey 3's shoot was supposed to initially begin in April last year. But the pandemic acted as a deterrent. Then, makers had settled for the 2021 end to commence production but thankfully, things are finally taking shape. Apart from Sharma's Choocha and Chadha's Bholi Punjaban, the comedy film franchise saw Pulkit Samrat play Hunny, Ali Fazal as Zafar Bhai, and Manjot Singh as Lali.
'Fukrey 3' might see a 2023 release
Coming to its possible release date, reports suggest that Lamba might target 2023 for the premiere of the third venture in the series. Whatever the date may be, the film would release in the cinema halls, as the filmmaker had previously noted, Fukrey films were "conceived as [films] and people like to view [these] in theaters."
