'Freedom at Midnight' casting director demands separate awards category
Kavish Sinha, the casting director of the upcoming SonyLIV historical drama Freedom at Midnight, has expressed dissatisfaction with his profession's lack of recognition in award shows. In a recent interview with Mid-Day, he stated, "We don't even have a category. Sometimes, even actors miss out on mentioning [us] when they win." Despite this, Sinha finds fulfillment in seeing actors he has selected succeed on screen.
Sinha's recent casting triumph with 'Freedom at Midnight'
Sinha recently assembled an ensemble cast for Freedom at Midnight. The show features Sidhant Gupta as Jawaharlal Nehru, Chirag Vohra as Mahatma Gandhi, and Rajendra Chawla as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Despite the lack of formal recognition, Sinha finds satisfaction in his work. He said, "Our high remains in the satisfaction we feel when someone we picked from that knock on the door [ends up] on screen." "It's the biggest award we can get because there is no award really."
Casting directors' close-knit community: Sinha's perspective
Sinha highlighted the strong sense of community among casting directors, mentioning Panchami Ghavri and Anmol Ahuja as examples. "We consult each other...we have our own ecosystem, and we never forget that we are working for actors' aspirations," he said. "We take that responsibility seriously. I wish everyone would give us the same respect as well."
