He featured in band's recent horror-comedy 'Studio 666'
Next to the founder and frontman of Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl, Hawkins was one of the most prominent members of the band. He even appeared alongside Grohl in several interviews and played prominent roles in the band's videos. He also featured in Foo Fighters' recent horror-comedy film, Studio 666 (2022), in which the band moves into a haunted mansion.
Hawkins's career with 'Foo Fighters' started in 1997
Hawkins was born in Texas in 1972 and raised in California. He started his career as a drummer by playing for Californian band Sylvia following which he started working for Canadian singer Sass Jordan. Notably, Hawkins had joined Foo Fighters in 1997, taking over the original drummer William Goldsmith. He had been part of the band for 25 of its 28 years of existence.
Grohl's second experience in losing a fellow bandmate
In the mid-1990s, Hawkins started as a touring drummer for the band Alanis Morissette, but Grohl later asked him to join Foo Fighters. To recall, this is the second time Grohl has experienced a close bandmate's demise. The first was when Nirvana's Kurt Cobain died in 1994; Grohl was part of Nirvana back then. Hawkins is survived by his wife Alison and three children.
