Dutt 'didn't' know the law, wishes otherwise for people
After he became a free man, Dutt advised everyone to know the nuances of the law. He said it was important to learn your rights, so you don't suffer. In an interview, Dutt said he didn't know what TADA stood for, till he was charged under it. He also believed his fate would have been different if he was well-versed with the law.
Life's better than cocaine, Dutt said once
Dutt has tried all drugs of the world, so much so, that even officials in the American rehab were surprised how he was alive. But Dutt doesn't want that for anyone else. He said there was no excuse for taking drugs. "I want to tell youngsters, live your life, love your work, love your family, it is better than cocaine," he once said.
Want to live hurt-free? Don't have any expectations from friends
Dutt said when he was in prison he didn't expect anyone to visit. He said he would be with his friends during their bad times, but it is okay if they don't feel the same. "I don't get hurt because I don't have expectations from friends," he had said. Well, living by this rule will reduce a lot of pain.
'Do your work, don't hope' remained Dutt's mantra
He said, in prison it was only obvious to hold on to hope, but he didn't. He said on leaving hope, he just concentrated on his work. Once this hurdle was crossed, life became easier for Dutt. The actor said he wanted to travel across India and tell people about his life. If cutting hope helped him survive, it can help you too.
Like Dutt, appreciate small things in life
He recalled he removed flies from 'daal' before eating them, and now when his wife doesn't cook delicacies he doesn't complain; because he knows what it's worth.
