Meghan Markle launches first product from American Riviera Orchard
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has introduced the first product from her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. The inaugural offering is a strawberry jam, as revealed in images shared by fashion designer Tracy Robins, a close associate of Markle and her husband Prince Harry. "Thank you for the delicious basket," wrote Robins on an Instagram Story on Monday (local time). "I absolutely love this jam so not sure I'm sharing with anyone."
Why does this story matter?
Earlier this month, Markle faced backlash for apparently launching American Riviera Orchard "really early" without a timeline target for product launches or clarification about who's investing. Reports also suggested that the Sussexes were going through financial troubles following their failed Spotify agreement. Even Netflix was rumored to be canceling their multi-million dollar production deal although nothing has been confirmed. Now with a product out in the open, these criticisms can be expected to stop.
Robins shared glimpses of the jam's packaging
Robins further shared a photo of a basket filled with lemons and a jar of the new jam, elegantly wrapped in rustic cheesecloth and adorned with a bow. She expressed her excitement for the fruity spread in another Instagram Story, stating that "breakfast, lunch and dinner just got a little sweeter." This endorsement provides an early positive review for the Duchess's latest venture into lifestyle products.
Markle's returned to social media with new venture
Markle first announced her plans for American Riviera Orchard in March. She marked her return to social media by launching a new website and Instagram account dedicated to the brand. Although she kept most details of the venture under wraps, she did reveal that it would operate from Montecito, California- her current residence with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
This isn't Markle's first foray into lifestyle industry
Before the American Riviera Orchard, Markle was at the helm of a lifestyle blog named The Tig until its closure in 2017. Reflecting on The Tig's end, the Suits actor wrote in a farewell post: "What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity." Meanwhile, apart from delectable items like jellies, jams, and spreads, books, tableware, linens, and servingware will be sold under American Riviera Orchard's banner.
