'Angrezi Medium' trailer: Irrfan is back, with a bang!
The wait is finally over! The first official trailer of Irrfan Khan's much-awaited movie Angrezi Medium is now out, nearly two years after the actor was diagnosed with a tumor. Directed by Homi Adajania, the movie is a spin-off to the 2017 hit comedy-drama Hindi Medium, which also starred Irrfan in the lead. Read on to know more.
The story is set in Rajasthan and London
While Hindi Medium (2017), which had Pakistani actress Saba Qamar opposite Irrfan, was about a couple's struggle to get their daughter admitted to a prestigious English-medium school, the new movie focuses on a middle-aged man (Irrfan), who gives his all to make his daughter's dream of studying abroad, come true. The story of Angrezi Medium is set in Udaipur, and London.
Irrfan is at the top of his game, yet again!
The 3-minute-long trailer opens at the felicitation ceremony of Tarika Bansal a.k.a Taru (Radhika Madan), where her father (an evidently bewildered Irrfan) tries to deliver a speech in utterly broken English. "Inside, I'm very emotional, and outside, I'm very happy," he utters, fumbling throughout, before cheekily admitting in Marwari, "Bas aathri angrezi aave hai hume [That's all the English I know]".
A roller coaster ride of drama, emotions, and laughter
The narrative soon shifts to London, the city where Tarika wishes to study after completing her school. Both Deepak Dobriyal and Irrfan infuse a satisfying amount of humor, with their hilarious punch lines. The trailer also gives glimpses of Kareena Kapoor Khan (as a British police officer), Ranvir Shorey, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Tripathi, and Kiku Sharda.
Irrfan has revealed he won't be promoting 'Angrezi Medium'
On Wednesday, Maddock Films, the movie's production company, released a video, with a voice note by Irrfan, wherein he revealed that he won't be promoting Angrezi Medium, due to his health issues. "I genuinely wanted to promote this film...But I am struggling with my health. Enjoy the trailer, be kind to each other and watch the film. And yes, wait for me," he said.
Irrfan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor in 2018
To recall, Irrfan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor in March 2018. He then left for London for treatment, and returned to India in February, last year. During his brief stay in India, he resumed filming his parts for Angrezi Medium. Some months later, the actor again flew down to London for a surgery, before returning to India in September 2019.
'Angrezi Medium' to release on March 20
Coming back to Angrezi Medium, the movie has been produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande. The music has been composed by Sachin-Jigar. It is set to release on March 20.
