Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji announces film on alleged disguise of Netaji
Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji is set to helm a project centered on 'Gumnami Baba', an ascetic spotted in Uttar Pradesh in the 1970s who many believed was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in disguise. The director, who received acclaim for his last outing 'Uma', said he had been toying with the idea ever since he read a newspaper article on the ascetic in 2016. Here's more.
Project is scheduled to start in 2019
With Prosenjit Chatterjee in the titular role, the film is scheduled to go on floors in 2019. "I am currently doing my homework," Mukherji said in an interview, refusing to divulge further details about the film. The yet-untitled film is slated for release in 2019. Bose was believed to have survived a plane crash in Taiwan by a section of friends and family members.
Happy to be part of this auspicious project: Chatterjee
Commission probing Netaji's death couldn't confirm ascetic's identity
A one-man commission constituted by the Center to find out about the disappearance or death of Netaji had nixed the air crash theory but could not confirm if the ascetic in UP was Bose due to the absence of clinching evidence. Co-founder of SVF Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Shrikant Mohta, expressed hope that the film will receive a good response at the box office.
