'Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba' helmer directing film on IPL scandal
A film adaptation of the infamous 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) scandal is currently in development. The director's seat has been filled by Jayprad Desai, who is also working on his upcoming OTT project, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. The yet-to-be-titled movie will depict a notorious scam orchestrated by a group of unemployed young men from Molipur village in Gujarat.
The scam behind the film's plot
The IPL scandal, which forms the plot of the Kaun Pravin Tambe? helmer's film, involved a sham cricket tournament staged by men from Molipur village. Following the legitimate IPL 2022 season, they hired laborers to impersonate players and umpires and even enlisted a Harsha Bhogle lookalike for commentary. The matches were broadcast on YouTube for two weeks, successfully deceiving several gamblers in Russia. The fake tournament reached the quarter-finals, after which, the group was nabbed by the police.
Film's inspiration and pre-production progress
The film is inspired by Faraz Ahsan's book, First Copy, reported Mid-Day. Desai, along with writers Hussain and Abbas Dalal, has conducted extensive research to create the screenplay. An insider told the portal that the team is currently finalizing casting decisions and scouting filming locations. A significant portion of the movie will be shot in Mumbai and Gujarat.
