Fawad-Mahira's 'Humsafar' to get Indian adaptation, but there's a twist
The renowned Pakistani show Humsafar, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is set to receive an Indian adaptation, reported Mid-Day. However, it won't be in the form of a film or show, but as a stage drama. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt will be presenting this adaptation, with actor Imran Zahid leading the project. Zahid has previously collaborated with Bhatt on several stage adaptations of his films.
The stage adaptation will foster art and cultural exchange
The team has secured a mutual agreement with Momina Duraid, the original creator of Humsafar, for its Indian stage version. Zahid expressed his hopes that this project would help reignite the cultural exchange between India and Pakistan. He stated, "It is an initiative from Bhatt and Duraid to continue the art and culture exchange between the two nations." "This exchange has been stuck for a while, and I believe this is one small step toward restarting this," he added.
Bhatt believes in bridging distances through art, culture
In a statement, Bhatt expressed his firm belief that the two nations can "bridge the distances" through art and culture. The show Humsafar narrates the story of Ashar (Fawad) and Khirad (Mahira), two people from different backgrounds who are compelled to get married due to their circumstances and must navigate the complexities of love, betrayal, and societal pressures. Based on Farhat Ishtiaq's novel of the same name, it was directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and produced by Duraid.
