Farhan's 'Toofaan' will release on May 21 on Amazon Prime
While many movies are securing theatrical release dates after the Centre eased pandemic-related restrictions, many are still sticking to the OTT platforms. Farhan Akhtar's ambitious project Toofaan, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 21. Akhtar took to Instagram to share a new poster of the film with the release date. Here's more on this.
Akhtar plays a national-level boxer in the movie
The movie, touted as a sports drama, will have Akhtar in the role of a national-level boxing player. The film also features actors Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles. Helmed by Mehra, it has been produced by Akhtar and his long-time collaborator Ritesh Sidhwani. The movie was announced in January 2020 and was supposed to release in October but COVID-19 ruined those plans.
This movie marks the second collaboration between Akhtar and Mehra
The movie marks the second collaboration between Mehra and Akhtar. The duo got together for the 2013 release Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The film is also a sports flick based on the life of star athlete Milkha Singh. Akhtar trained extensively for his role and earned a lot of praise for his charming portrayal of the athlete, also known as 'The Flying Sikh.'
Mehra heaped praises on Akhtar
Talking about their new collaboration, Mehra said, "After working with Farhan Akhtar in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, I was certain he would be the perfect protagonist for Toofaan. The best thing about him is that he does not act the part, but lives it completely." He added that the story will motivate people to leave their comfort zones and fight for their dreams.

Many big budget movies are gearing up for theatrical releases
When the theaters shut down due to the pandemic, many movies took the OTT route and kept the audiences entertained. But after the restrictions were eased, things turned around for Bollywood. Janhvi Kapoor's Roohi, which is releasing tomorrow, is the first major Bollywood movie to hit screens after a year-long lull. Other films like Prithviraj and Shamshera will also release in cinemas.
