Famke Janssen hints at possible return to 'X-Men' franchise
Famke Janssen, the original actor who portrayed the character Jean Grey/Phoenix in the X-Men franchise, has hinted at a potential return to her iconic role. In a recent discussion with ComicBook, she revealed her openness to reprising her role despite being unsure of Marvel's future plans for the X-Men series. "I don't know. I mean, I didn't expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey," Janssen reflected on her journey.
Janssen has portrayed Jean Grey in several 'X-Men' films
Janssen first took on the role of Jean Grey in the 2000 X-Men film, continuing to portray this powerful mutant in subsequent films such as X2 (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). She also made brief appearances in The Wolverine (2013) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Listing the times she returned for special appearances following her onscreen demise (in The Last Stand), the actor admitted that her reappearances after the initial trilogy were pleasant surprises.
Chances are, we might see Janssen in 'Deadpool & Wolverine'
Janssen left open the possibility of featuring in this year's Deadpool & Wolverine film, stating, "I don't know. I doubt it, but you never know." In more recent X-Men films, Sophie Turner stepped into the role of a younger Jean Grey for X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019). More recently, the iconic mutant was seen in the animated form on the Disney+ Hotstar series X-Men '97.
