'Vettaiyan': Fahadh Faasil reveals comedic role in Rajinikanth starrer
Fahadh Faasil, who is getting ready for the release of the Malayalam film Aavesham on Thursday, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming Rajinikanth film, Vettaiyan. In a shift from his usual antagonistic roles, Faasil will reportedly be seen portraying a character with comedic elements. Directed by TJ Gnanavel (Jai Bhim), the project is currently in production, with a release scheduled for October.
'Vettaiyan' features star-studded cast and thrilling plot
In the forthcoming film, produced by Lyca Productions, Rajinikanth will be seen in the role of a police officer advocating for social justice in a plot reportedly based on true events. The movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan. To note, Vettaiyan marks the first onscreen reunion between cinema titans Rajinikanth and Bachchan in 33 years, since Mukul S Anand's Hum (1991).
'Vettaiyan' production nears completion, release date announced
Production for Vettaiyan is nearing its end, with a release date set six months ahead to prevent potential box office clashes. To recall, earlier in January, the makers revealed the official first-look poster of Vettaiyan, showing two images of Rajinikanth in a commanding role. Exuding swagger, the 73-year-old actor was seen donning a salt-and-pepper look and wayfarer glasses in both images. More recently, while announcing the release month, the makers shared another poster featuring Thalaivar.
Meanwhile, here's everything about Faasil's next 'Aavesham'
Speaking about his upcoming film Aavesham, Faasil will portray an infamous goon recruited by three college students seeking retribution against their seniors. With musical compositions by Sushin Shyam, the film is anticipated to feature eight or more tracks. The ensemble cast includes Sajin Gopu, Mansoor Ali Khan, Ashish Vidyarthi, Hipzster, Mithun Jai Shankar, Roshan Shanavas, Midhutty, and more in pivotal roles. Notably, Aavesham will lock horns with other Malayalam productions like Varshangalkku Shesham and Jai Ganesh.
Rajinikanth has a jam-packed 2024 ahead
After Vettaiyan, the superstar will collaborate with Lokesh Kanagaraj on Thalaivar 171 (tentatively titled), a project featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, with the title reveal expected on August 22. He is also reported to reunite with Nelson Dilipkumar for Jailer 2, after the success of the 2023 film. Notably, Rajinikanth was last seen in daughter Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's directorial venture—the sports drama Lal Salaam—in an extended cameo.
