After a decade, Eminem returns to open the MTV VMAs
Eminem fans, gather! In a piece of great news, the American rapper is set to return to the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) stage this year. The 51-year-old artist will be opening the show on Wednesday night, marking his first performance at the VMAs since 2022. Eminem has previously won several awards at the VMAs and is currently tied with Peter Gabriel for the most wins in VMA history.
Eminem's last VMA performance and nominations
To recall, the Without Me singer last performed at the VMAs in 2022, sharing the stage with Snoop Dogg. The rapper also opened the show in 2010 with a duet on his hit Love the Way You Lie with pop sensation Rihanna. This year, he has received eight nominations, including "Video of the Year," "Best Hip-Hop," "Song of the Summer," and "VMAs Most Iconic Performance."
Other artists to perform at VMAs
The VMAs will feature performances from several other artists, including Anitta, Karol G, LL Cool J, Shawn Mendes, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Camila Cabello, Rauw Alejandro, Benson Boone, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, and Blackpink's Lisa. The awards show will take place live on Wednesday (September 11) at 8:00pm ET/PT from New York's UBS Arena. For the Indian fans, the prestigious award ceremony will take place on Thursday (September 12) at 5:30 am IST.
VMAs rescheduled due to US presidential debate
Per reports, the VMAs were originally scheduled for September 10 but were moved back by one day due to the first debate of the election cycle between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. This year, Taylor Swift leads the VMA nominees with 10 nominations, followed by Post Malone with nine. Eminem is tied with Ariana Grande and Carpenter with six nominations each.
