Emilia Clarke's next adventure: A spy thriller titled 'Ponies'
Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, has been cast in the lead role for Peacock's upcoming spy thriller series Ponies. The show, set in Moscow during the Cold War era, is co-created by Susanna Fogel and David Iserson. In addition to her acting role, Clarke will also serve as an executive producer on the series.
'Ponies' plot and character details
Ponies is set in 1977 Moscow and follows the story of two 'PONIES' (an acronym for 'persons of no interest' in intelligence jargon) who work as secretaries at the American Embassy. Their lives take a dramatic turn when their husbands are mysteriously killed in the USSR, leading them to become CIA operatives. Clarke will portray Bea, an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants.
'Ponies' marks Peacock's second spy thriller commission this year
Ponies is co-created by Susanna Fogel and David Iserson, with Fogel also serving as the director. Iserson will function as the showrunner for the series. Universal Television has been roped in for production. Notably, Ponies is the second spy thriller series commissioned by Peacock this year. The NBCUniversal-owned streaming platform had previously ordered an untitled spy project starring Simu Liu, with James Wan serving as the executive producer.
