Activists in Elvish Yadav snake venom case granted police protection
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered police protection for two activists involved in the snake venom scandal linked to YouTuber Elvish Yadav. The court's decision, announced last Thursday (April 18) directs local law enforcement to ensure the safety of two brothers associated with the People for Animals (PFA) NGO. The brothers—Saurabh and Gaurav Gupta—had lodged a complaint against Yadav and five others in November last year.
Activists had sought police protection after receiving threats
Per reports, the Gupta brothers accused Yadav and five others of allegedly supplying snake venom for use at rave parties in Noida. Following their accusations, they claimed to have received threats from Yadav, leading them to seek police protection. Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi responded to their plea by ordering the Commissioner of Police in Gurgaon to provide adequate security for the activists, especially during court proceedings.
Gupta brothers had previously filed complaints against Yadav
The Gupta brothers had previously filed separate complaints against Yadav with both the Gurgaon and Noida Police. One of the brothers went undercover as a rave party organizer, contacting Yadav about procuring snake venom. This interaction led to a tip-off that resulted in a police raid at the rave party in Noida's Sector 51. During the raid, authorities recovered nine snakes (five cobras, one python, two two-headed snakes, and one rat snake) and 20ml of snake venom.
Yadav was detained on March 17
Yadav—who was detained on March 17—was granted bail in two distinct cases within a week. Apart from the snake venom case, the other case pertained to an attack on fellow YouTuber Sagar Thakur aka Maxtern. To note, the Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner was arrested under several charges including the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Wildlife Protection Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
'That week was a very bad phase of life...'
After getting bail, Yadav stated in his vlog, "The one week that went by, no doubt, was a very bad phase of life." "Let's start a new chapter on a positive note. All those who supported me...didn't support me...talked badly or well about me, thanks to all." He further expressed his faith in the judicial system, affirming that he trusts that whatever unfolds will be just. "Neither do I do nor speak anything wrong," he emphasized.
