Dying fan gets to watch 'Star Wars' before official release
What's better than watching a Star Wars movie? Well, watching it before everyone else. You would be sweetly surprised to know that a fan of the franchise, got the opportunity to watch a special screening of the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, well before its release. The terminally ill patient believed he won't make it till the official release date.
It all started with a Twitter plea
It all started after Rowan Hospice, the facility in Hampshire, England, where the said patient is being treated, sent out an open plea on Twitter to help its patient watch the film with his son. "Sadly, time is not on his (patient's) side for 20th Dec (release date). His wish is to see the final Star Wars film with his son," the Hospice tweeted.

The tweet from the Hospice gained immense support on social media. Furthermore, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy, also came out in support of the patient. Confirming that the patient's wish would be granted, Disney CEO Bob Iger tweeted, "On this Thanksgiving, we at Disney are grateful to be able to share #TheRiseOfSkywalker with a patient and his family."
Here's what Iger tweeted
Biggest thank-you to everyone for making this happen, said patient
"During what is just a horrible situation to be in, you have helped to make some wonderful memories and bring some joy to my family," the patient said in a statement. "I am a huge Star Wars fan and what I'm going through is completely dire. I thought I wasn't going to see the film I've been waiting to see since 1977," he added.
