'Vettaiyan,' 'Jigra,' 'Kanguva': A Dussehra movie marathon awaits
Following a blockbuster Independence Day at the box office, movie lovers are in for another thrill this Dussehra with three major films hitting theaters. Superstar Rajinikanth's 170th film Vettaiyan will be competing against Suriya's period action-drama Kanguva and Alia Bhatt's Bollywood venture Jigra. With each film targeting a distinct audience, the competition is set to be fierce and promises to ignite the box office.
'Vettaiyan': Rajinikanth returns in a cop drama
Slated for release on October 10, Vettaiyan is a cop drama directed by TJ Gnanavel. The film features an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier, and Dushara Vijayan. It will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. The film sees Rajinikanth playing a formidable police officer and marks his first on-screen reunion with Bachchan after 1991's Hum.
'Kanguva': Suriya's period action-drama set 1,500 years in the past
Releasing alongside Vettaiyan, Kanguva is an epic action fantasy directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green. The film is set 1,500 years in the past and revolves around a fierce rivalry between two leaders, played by Suriya and Bobby Deol. The film also stars Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, and Ananda. The trailer for Kanguva, which translates to "fire" in Tamil, teased a gripping story unfolding across two timelines.
'Jigra': Bhatt's gripping escape drama
On the other hand, Bhatt's eagerly awaited film Jigra is releasing on October 11. It is a Bollywood escape drama directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The film co-stars The Archies actor Vedang Raina and is a tale of a sister's love for her brother. While Vettaiyan and Kanguva are set to compete primarily in the Tamil market, Jigra will cater to a pan-Indian audience.
Dhruva Sarja's 'Martin' is also in the race!
Martin is an upcoming Kannada-language action thriller directed by AP Arjun, based on a story by Arjun Sarja. The film stars Dhruva Sarja, with a supporting cast that includes Vaibhavi Shandilya, Anveshi Jain, Sukrutha Wagle, Achyuth Kumar, and Nikitin Dheer. Scheduled for release on October 11, Martin follows Lt. Brigadier Arjun Saxena as he embarks on a journey from Pakistan to India to uncover his true identity and combat black market dealers linked to terrorists planning major attacks.
