Box-office: 'Do Aur Do Pyaar' sees minor improvement; still underwhelms
Despite boasting a star-studded cast and receiving positive critical reception, the romantic drama Do Aur Do Pyaar is struggling to gain traction at the box office. Released on Friday, the film opened with a disappointing ₹55 lakh, followed by a slight improvement to ₹85 lakh on Saturday. The film is falling well below expectations and may continue to struggle on weekdays, with only Sunday offering hope for redemption.
Why does this story matter?
Directed by debutant Shirsha Guha Thakurta, the film boasts a stellar cast including Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D'Cruz, and Sendhil Ramamurthy. The film was released simultaneously with Dibakar Banerjee's sinking ship, Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2. The latter failed to even cross the ₹1cr mark in two days. Meanwhile, following their theatrical run, LSD 2 will be available on Netflix, while Do Aur Do Pyaar will make its digital debut on Disney+ Hotstar.
Collection: Film couldn't even surpass ₹2cr in two days
In two days, Do Aur Do Pyaar managed to accumulate a mere ₹1.40cr, as reported by Sacnilk. The film recorded an overall 13.72% Hindi occupancy on Saturday. Despite enjoying 244 screenings in Mumbai and 323 in Delhi-NCR, the film failed to translate this into box office success. Notably, it faced tough competition from Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Ajay Devgn's Maidaan, both released on Eid.
What is 'Do Aur Do Pyaar' all about?
The storyline revolves around a married couple, Kavya Ganeshan (Balan) and Anirudh Bannerjee (Gandhi), both entangled in extramarital affairs, awaiting the opportune moment to reveal their secrets. While Kavya is involved with the charming photographer Vikram (Sendhil), Anirudh seeks comfort in Nora (Ileana), who later discovers she is carrying his child. Instead of confronting their indiscretions, Kavya and Anirudh find themselves drawn back into the whirlwind of their past romance.
Star-studded cast marks return to cinema
Do Aur Do Pyaar marks Gandhi's second release this year following Madgaon Express, and Balan's highly-anticipated return to theaters after her 2023 film Neeyat. In a conversation with PTI, Gandhi shared his experience of meeting Balan for the first time, stating he had to "behave normal" despite being starstruck. Notably, D'Cruz made a comeback after a hiatus with Tera Kya Hoga Lovely, released in March.
