Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat (50) passed away due to liver ailment
In a terrible piece of news, filmmaker and actor Nishikant Kamat has passed away. He was 50. He had been admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad and was undergoing treatment for liver complications. Earlier in the day, it was reported that his condition was critical and he was put on ventilator support. May his soul rest in peace.
Deshmukh confirmed the news on Twitter
Posting a picture with his friend and colleague, actor Riteish Deshmukh tweeted, "I will miss you my friend. #NishikantKamat, Rest in peace (sic)."

Kamat started his career with 'Dombivali Fast' in 2005
Kamat, an alumnus of Mumbai's Ramnarain Ruia College, started his filmmaking career with renowned Marathi film Dombivali Fast. The movie won several accolades including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. He later remade the movie in Tamil, with R Madhavan in the lead role. He has also directed the Marathi movie Lai Bhaari, that was released in 2014.
With 'Mumbai Meri Jaan,' he entered Bollywood in 2008
Kamat entered Bollywood with his 2008 thriller film Mumbai Meri Jaan, which is based on the aftermath of the July 2006 Mumbai train bombings. He also directed John Abraham-starrer action movie Force. One of Kamat's most successful outings (commercially) came in 2015 with Ajay Devgn and Tabu-starrer thriller Drishyam. Kamat also helmed Rocky Handsome (2016) and Irrfan Khan-starrer Madaari (2016).
As actor, Kamat was last seen in 'Bhavesh Joshi Superhero'
Kamat also frequently faced the camera. As an actor, he featured in movies such as Hava Aney Dey, Saatchya Aat Gharat, 404 Error Not Found, Rocky Handsome, Daddy, Julie 2. His last onscreen outing was in 2018 vigilante action movie Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. Besides work in cinema, Kamat has served as creative producer on two TV shows, viz. Rangbaaz Phirse and The Final Call.
Bollywood lost many gems this year
Kamat's demise marks yet another loss for the entertainment fraternity. The country is still grappling with the loss of Sushant Singh Rajput (34), a rising star, who was found dead at his apartment in June. The police said it was suicide. Other stars who passed away this year include music composer Wajid Khan, choreographer Saroj Khan, and celebrated actors Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor.
