Naseeruddin Shah joins Diljit Dosanjh for Imtiaz Ali's next: Report
What's the story
Imtiaz Ali, who has seen success in the digital space with Chamkila and re-releases like Rockstar and Tamasha, is all set to direct a new period love story.
The film will star Diljit Dosanjh and Vedang Raina. This project is expected to precede Ali's much-anticipated romantic comedy Idiots of Istanbul.
Now, a recent report suggests that Naseeruddin Shah has joined Dosanjh and Raina for the upcoming film.
Film details
Ali's film to blend contemporary and period elements
The next film is said to be a period love story with a contemporary touch. The yet-untitled project will go on floors by summer 2025.
"Imtiaz has cracked a tale that merges contemporary elements with the period world, and is excited to embark on a journey of discovery with his next," the source told Pinkvilla.
The filmmaker hopes to release this romantic saga on Valentine's Day weekend in 2026, if he can assemble his cast by May 2025.
Casting strategy
Ali's unique approach to casting for the film
A source revealed that while the male cast has been finalized, the female leads are still being cast with Ali looking for three actors from different generations.
"The idea is to cast actresses apt to bring Imtiaz Ali's vision to the big screen. The filmmaker is looking to attempt something he has never done before," the source added.
After wrapping up this romantic saga, the filmmaker will start working on Idiots of Istanbul—featuring Fahadh Faasil and Triptii Dimri.
