Did Selena just reference bestie Taylor's 'All Too Well'?
What's the story
Selena Gomez and her fiancé, Benny Blanco, dropped their collaborative album I Said I Love You First last Friday, March 21.
Among the tracks, Younger and Hotter Than Me caught the attention of fans who think it references a popular song by Gomez's longtime friend, Taylor Swift.
The album features lyrics such as "We're not getting any younger/But your girlfriends seem to," which fans noted are similar to Swift's All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version).
Lyrical comparison
Fans highlighted similarities between Gomez's and Swift's lyrics
Fans were quick to spot the similarities between the lyrics of Gomez's Younger and Hotter Than Me and Swift's All Too Well.
One fan on X (formerly Twitter) noted, "The subject matter of this song is reminiscent of All Too Well a bit, especially with the 'we're not getting any younger, but your girlfriends seem to' line. Sonically it's perfect for Selena's voice as well."
Another fan posted a video of the two songs playing together to illustrate the similarities.
Mutual admiration
Swift's support for Gomez's new album
The day after I Said I Love You First dropped, Swift took to her Instagram Stories to gush over the album.
She wrote, "@selenagomez & @itsbennyblanco I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH. OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD," along with a link to the album.
This isn't the first time Swift has supported Gomez; she had previously celebrated Gomez's 2023 song Single Soon and Gomez attended her Eras Tour concert in Los Angeles in August 2023.
Engagement reaction
Swift's humorous response to Gomez's engagement
When Gomez and Blanco announced their engagement in December 2024, Swift had also left a humorous comment on their Instagram post, saying, "Yes I will be the flower girl."
This only further emphasizes the close friendship between the two pop stars, who have been friends since 2008.
