KJo's Dharma Productions forays into Punjabi cinema with Gippy's 'Akaal'
What's the story
Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has announced it is collaborating with actor-singer Gippy Grewal for his upcoming Punjabi historical drama Akaal.
This will mark Dharma's first foray into Punjabi cinema and will be released pan-India in both Punjabi and Hindi.
This will be a landmark, as Akaal will be the first Punjabi film released in Hindi as well.
Release date
'Akaal' to be released in April
Based on true events, Akaal will narrate the journey of Sikh warriors and their indomitable spirit.
Written and directed by Grewal, the film will be released on April 10, 2025, during the Baisakhi festivities.
Other than Grewal, the film will also feature Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nikitin Dheer, Mita Vashisht, Shinda Grewal, Ekom Grewal, Jaggi Singh, Ashish Duggal, Bhana La, Harinder Bhullar, and Jarnail Singh.

Announcing Akaal, Johar said he was excited about the project.

"This film is a powerful representation of the history & culture of Punjab, and we are committed to bringing this important story to a wide audience across India through its release in both Punjabi and Hindi," he added.
Apoorva Mehta of Dharma Productions reiterated the same, calling Akaal a tribute to Sikh warriors' bravery.

Akaal is a historical drama inspired by real events, focusing on the courage and sacrifices of Sikh warriors.
The film will be produced by Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Mehta and Bhumika Tewari from Dharma Productions, alongside Grewal and Ravneet Kaur Grewal from Humble Motion Pictures, marking a significant expansion of Dharma Productions into regional storytelling.
