Dhanush-Aishwaryaa's separation 'expected and inevitable' for South film industry insiders?
What's the story
Tamil superstar Dhanush and filmmaker Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth announced their separation last month after 18 long years of marriage.
The news had shocked the entire nation. However, as per a new report, the south Indian film industry was well aware of a rift between the couple for many years now, and their divorce announcement was, in fact, "expected and inevitable."

'They were barely a couple' for past few years
According to a report by ETimes, the famed pair was having issues for the last six years or so and their peers knew about it, too.
"Five, or maybe even six years, Aishwaryaa and Dhanush were staying together whenever Dhanush was not shooting, but they were barely a couple," an anonymous source from the South film industry told the portal.

Delay in announcement 'possibly [because] they're trying to repair relationship'
"The separation was not entirely shocking but in fact sort of expected and inevitable," the source said, noting how a final announcement was "only a matter of time."
They added, "It can be said that they took pretty long to announce it but possibly they were trying to repair the relationship."
Notably, the couple in question did not give any reason for their split.
Looking back
Couple took time to understand each other as individuals
To recall, the Atrangi Re star and the Cinema Veeran director had also requested privacy while dealing with their separation.
"Today we stand at a place where our paths separate...Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better," Dhanush's statement had read.
Aishwaryaa had penned a similar note as well.
Work
Both have multiple projects in their pipeline
After meeting in 2000, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa (legendary actor Rajinikanth's elder daughter) tied the knot in 2004.
They are parents to two sons, Yathra and Linga.
Aishwaryaa, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, is making her debut as a music video director with a special Valentine's Day song, Musafir.
Meanwhile, Dhanush has Maaran, The Gray Man, Thiruchitrambalam, Naane Varuven, Vaathi/Sir, and an untitled Aishwaryaa-directorial.
