'Dhadak 2': CBFC raises concern over caste discrimination story
What's the story
The upcoming film Dhadak 2, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, has run into trouble with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over its portrayal of caste discrimination.
Per a Bollywood Hungama report, the CBFC has raised concerns over certain scenes and dialogues in the film.
If true, this could delay its clearance and release, which was originally slated for November 2024 but was pushed to 2025 later.
Certification challenges
'Dhadak 2' certification process under scrutiny
A source told the portal, "Dhadak 2 deals with caste issues and is supposed to be a shocking tale. The Examining Committee (EC) of the CBFC applauded the makers for such a film."
"However, since its content, they are mulling over what rating should be given to the film and what scenes to be cut, if any."
A trade expert added the makers are awaiting the completion of this process before commencing promotions.
Release uncertainty
'Dhadak 2' release date hangs in balance
After the November 2024 delay, the film is currently slated to release on the Holi weekend on March 14. But this date may change if the film doesn't get clearance from the CBFC.
The delay in commencing promotions for Dhadak 2 is also due to these certification issues. The makers are reportedly waiting for the CBFC's nod before they start promoting their film.
Remake controversy
'Dhadak 2' is a remake of Tamil film 'Pariyerum Perumal'
Interestingly, Dhadak 2 is reportedly a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, which didn't face any issues with the CBFC during its release. This has led to questions about why the Hindi adaptation is facing hurdles.
An insider questioned, "When Pariyerum Perumal didn't face any trouble, why is Dhadak 2 being subjected to harassment?"
The motion poster of Dhadak 2 subtly hinted at its caste-based theme with a tagline and background featuring "Dalit Lives Matter."
