Deepika's word of advice on how to overcome depression
Deepika Padukone has always been vocal about her battle with depression. The actress is among the few Bollywood personalities who came out and shared their encounters with mental illness. Speaking at a recent session on mental health, Deepika reckoned that it's high time people sought help for feeling depressed or else it would be too late.
Deepika stressed on approaching professional help
Speaking from her own experience, the actress said that half the battle is won when one goes to a counselor. "You are not alone. One in five people suffers depression. We have to help each other. Its okay to be vulnerable, to have moments of low, to share and to seek help. If your psychiatrist prescribes medication, its okay to take it," Deepika said.
How did she identify depression
Deepika recounts vividly that on a day in 2014, when her parents were about to head back after visiting her, she broke down. She then spoke to her mother about the feelings she has had of late and realized it was depression. She then immediately reached out for help and gradually acquired a positive frame of mind.
Deepika's suggestion to everybody
"One should be more attentive towards his/her family members, friends, colleagues who seem to be getting negative day by day. Talk to them about their problems and try to make them feel better," she added.
