You'll see a disfigured Deepika in 'Chhapaak', says Meghna Gulzar
2018 was quite eventful for Deepika Padukone. Not only did she marry fellow actor Ranveer Singh, she also gave a powerful performance in Padmaavat. Apart from this, she was roped in for Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak, which is based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. For this movie, the Cocktail actress will sport a "disfigured" look, as was revealed by Meghna.
'Chhapaak' is a story of Laxmi's triumph in life
For the uninitiated, Chhapaak will feature the story and struggles of Laxmi Aggarwal, the poster girl of acid attack survivors in India. Laxmi was attacked in 2005 by a 32-year-old man named Gudda aka Naeem Khan whose proposal she had rejected. She was 15 then. Laxmi's face and other body parts were disfigured in the attack but it didn't diminish her courage and poise.
Deepika and Laxmi have uncanny similarities, Meghna
Meghna, who is ecstatic about the project, recently spilled beans about Deepika's look from Chhapaak. She stated that the actress would be unrecognizable in the movie. "You won't be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika," she added. Well, this certainly got us excited.
'Chhapaak' is Deepika's maiden production, actor excited to portray Laxmi
Since Chhapaak is based on a strong story, the actress evidently excited about it. She stated that the film would narrate a story of trauma, triumph and the indomitable human spirit. In fact, in one of her interviews, Deepika revealed that she agreed to the movie within five minutes of narration. Interestingly, this will also be Deepika's maiden production venture.
'Chhapaak' to hit the floors next month
Chhapaak will also star Vikrant Massey essaying the role of Laxmi's partner, social activist Alok Dixit. "He is a north Indian man who used to be a professional but decides to leave it all and become an actor. And then starts this campaign against acid attack violence," Meghna was quoted saying. According to media reports, Chhapaak is expected to hit the floors mid-March.
