Bollywood actor, Ranveer Singh is currently at the center of a controversy involving a deepfake video. In the contentious video, an AI-created version of Singh appears to endorse a political party ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections. The Maharashtra Police's Cyber Crime Cell is currently investigating this incident after Singh lodged an FIR. In the latest development, the Cyber Crime Cell has initiated legal action against a social media user identified as @sujataindia.
FIR lodged against Twitter user for this reason
Per a News18 report, the action against @sujataindia was taken following a complaint from Singh's father, Jugjeet Singh Bhavnani on Tuesday. The social media user allegedly uploaded the deepake video on X/Twitter. To note, the video in question emerged on social media following Singh's appearance at a fashion show in Varanasi. It falsely portrayed the Singham Again actor endorsing the Congress party in the upcoming elections.
Video featured an AI-generated voice clone of Singh
In the wake of the viral video, Singh's team previously confirmed that they have taken legal action. They released an official statement saying, "Yes, we have filed the police complaint, and an FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated fake video of Mr. Ranveer Singh." The statement emphasized that despite appearing authentic, the video features an AI-generated voice clone of the actor.
When Singh warned his fans about the fake video
In response to the manipulated video, Singh issued a cautionary message to his followers regarding the potential risks of deepfake technology. Taking to his Instagram Story, he posted a message in capital letters: "Deepfake se bacho dostonnnn" (skull emoji), translated as, "Beware of Deepfakes, friends." Amid this controversy, Singh remains focused on his professional commitments. He is currently immersed in preparations for Singham Again and is also gearing up for Don 3.
Earlier, Aamir Khan's deepfake video went viral
