New Google Movie ad makes excellent use of Deadpool
The new Google ad that has been released ahead of the 91st Oscars to showcase its new series of smart speakers and phones is a joy for any movie lover. With the tagline 'Make Google Do It,' the ad shows scenes from several iconic films before including Deadpool in a meta post-credit scene that only he can pull off. Read all about it here.
Advertisement shows how Google would make iconic films different
The ad shows clips from notable films including Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey, the cult horror classic Scream and the recent acclaimed movie Lady Bird. We see how some iconic scenes would have been different with Google around to help. For example, when HAL does not open the doors of the spaceship in Kubrick's film, Google is there to do it!
'Make Google Do It' is the advertisement's message
With Blitzkrieg Bop by Ramones playing in the background, the ad goes on to show how the killer in Scream could have easily been apprehended with the help of a Google home device. While several movie characters are shownn to rely on Google at crucial moments, the ad's message is clear - why exert yourself, when you can simply 'Make Google Do It'.
Deadpool stages a classic appearance in the ad
Deadpool's appearance is the best, showing up during the ad's post-credits. The scene is from Deadpool's post-credit, and there is a meta-reference where the merc with a mouth asks the Google device what's on his calendar. Upon being told that he has to appear in a Google ad, he says that will not happen. Ironically, he is in the ad while making this statement.
Not the first time Google has resorted to popular films
Google has previously fallen back on iconic movies from pop culture to market their products. As we had reported, Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin reprised his role as Kevin McAllister in an ad that took viewers back to the first time Kevin found himself left alone at home. However, this time he had Google Assistant powered devices to make his living a lot easier.
