David Schwimmer urges Musk to ban 'bigot' Ye from X
What's the story
David Schwimmer, famous for his role in the iconic TV show F.R.I.E.N.D.S, has urged tech mogul Elon Musk to ban rapper Ye (Kanye West) from the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The appeal comes after a string of controversial posts by Ye, including antisemitic remarks and attacks on the #MeToo movement.
In one post, he even called himself a Nazi and praised Adolf Hitler.
Social impact
Schwimmer called Ye a 'deranged bigot'
Schwimmer took to Instagram to voice his concerns, writing, "We can't stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile... but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X."
"That's twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews."
Public reaction
Schwimmer called for more outrage over Ye's comments
Schwimmer was dismayed at the absence of public outrage over Ye's comments.
He said, "I don't know what's worse, the fact that he identifies as a Nazi (which implies he wants to exterminate ALL marginalized communities including his own) or the fact that there is not sufficient OUTRAGE to remove and ban him from all social media at this point."
Past incidents
Ye's controversial posts and previous ban from X
Since his wife Bianca Censori's eye-catching Grammys appearance, Ye has been posting actively on social media.
His posts have ranged from praising Hitler, identifying as a Nazi, promoting a Yeezy t-shirt with a swastika, controversial slavery comments, criticizing #MeToo, and insulting plus-sized models.
This isn't the first time Ye has been on the verge of expulsion from X; he was banned for almost eight months between 2022-2023 for similar behavior.
