Karnataka priest suspended for displaying Darshan's photo in temple
A priest in Karnataka, identified as Mallikarjun Swamy, alias Malli, has been suspended for placing a photograph of murder-accused Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa inside the temple's sanctum sanctorum. The suspension was carried out on Tuesday by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in Karnataka. An internal investigation into the incident has also been ordered by the department.
Outrage sparked over priest's actions, investigation underway
Swamy allegedly placed Thoogudeepa's picture inside the Dodda Basaveshwara temple in Ballari district to perform a pooja, sparking outrage among locals and devotees. The public demanded that the government dismiss the priest. Videos of the alleged pooja surfaced on the internet, fueling further controversy. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department has ordered an internal investigation into this matter.
Thoogudeepa's judicial custody was extended
The judicial custody of Thoogudeepa and his associates has been extended until August 11. This decision was made by the Special Investigation Team who submitted a remand application to the court to ensure uninterrupted case proceedings. Bail was denied to Thoogudeepa due to concerns about him intimidating witnesses because of his social prominence, following a complaint about threats filed with local authorities.
Thoogudeepa arrested for alleged involvement in murder
Thoogudeepa was arrested by Bengaluru Police on June 11 for his alleged involvement in the murder of 33-year-old Renuka Swamy. The victim, reportedly a fan of Thoogudeepa, had sent obscene messages to his co-star and alleged partner, Pavithra Gowda. Gowda has also been arrested in connection with this case. Reports suggest that Renuka had accused Gowda of causing problems in Thoogudeepa's marriage, leading to the alleged retaliation by Thoogudeepa.
