Box office: 'Crew' sees boost in revenue on second Tuesday
Crew, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon, witnessed a significant surge in box office earnings on its second Tuesday. After a minor dip in collections on Monday, the movie's domestic earnings rose to an estimated ₹62.15cr nett on Day 12. The film had wrapped up its first week with a box office collection of ₹43.75cr and maintained a strong performance throughout the second weekend with an estimated earning of ₹14.5cr.
'Crew' triumphs despite low theater occupancy
Despite a theater occupancy rate of just 11.55% on Tuesday (with the highest turnout in night shows: 12.97%), Crew managed to achieve impressive box office figures. It added an estimated ₹2.15cr on Day 12, per Sacnilk. Now, the film's domestic gross total has reached an estimated ₹71.05cr, while earnings from international markets exceeded ₹38cr. This pushed the movie's 12-day business to the ₹109.05cr mark worldwide.
'Crew' holds its own against competition
The success of Crew is particularly notable given its competition with Hollywood's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which earned an estimated ₹76.28cr (nett) at the Indian box office. Both films were released on March 29. Going forward, Crew's earnings will majorly be impacted by the release of the highly-anticipated Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, and Ajay Devgn's sports drama Maidaan. They are set for Thursday (April 11) release.
Know everything about 'Crew'
Directed by Rajesh Krishnan, Crew is a heist comedy about three air hostesses who decide to take control of their destiny when their airline goes bankrupt. It is inconspicuously inspired by fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya's downfall with Kingfisher Airlines. The film is backed by Ektaa Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor, who earlier collaborated on the 2018 buddy comedy Veere Di Wedding—another female-led project. The producers are now working on its sequel and have seemingly confirmed the potential for Crew 2.
Sanon shared thoughts on 'Crew's success
In a recent interview, Sanon expressed her views on the film's success. She stated, "A film doesn't have to be led by a man to pull the audience to the theater." The actor added that this response signifies a "sort of a start of a change" and showed optimism that investors will show equal interest in female-led films as they do in male-led ones. Crew marks Sanon's second box office hit this year after Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.
