What's the story

Vivek Agnihotri's much talked-about film The Kashmir Files released on Friday, but the movie's future seems to be in jeopardy. A court in Jammu and Kashmir has issued an order restraining the release of the film with regard to a particular scene featuring Martyr Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna. The Kashmir Files claims to present the real story of Kashmiri Pandits' exodus from the Valley.

What happened

This is the root cause of complaint

The suit demanding mandatory injunction came from Khanna's wife Shalini Khanna, who watched the film at a special screening on March 4. According to her, Agnihotri has gone wrong with the depiction of her husband. Even during the screening, she had addressed the issue on stage but apparently, makers did not pay her any heed. Thus, she approached the court, say reports.

What did the complaint say?

As per the complaint, the facts shown about Khanna were "absolutely and entirely unrelated and non-identical to actual facts." Notably, the squadron leader was one of the four Indian Air Force personnel killed in Srinagar on January 25, 1990, allegedly by followers of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front's head Yasin Malik. Thereby, Jammu Additional District Judge, Deepak Sethi gave the stay order on Thursday.

Before this, PIL was filed in Bombay High Court

Based on the suit, the court ordered makers to either "immediately remove and delete the scene and incorrect facts displayed" or amend the scene. Earlier, a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by an individual named Intezar Hussain Sayed from Uttar Pradesh. He claimed the film has hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community but the Bombay High Court had dismissed the plea.
