'Padmavati' gets controversies rolling, release may get delayed
Every dawn brings a new challenge for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmavati. The film starring three stellar actors of Bollywood has received a tremendous amount of support and praise on Twitter but the Rajput community doesn't seem too pleased with the whole existence of this yet-to-be-released movie. While fans cannot wait for the release, it's the Rajput-community acting as a threat to Padmavati!
Karni Sena alleges distortion of facts
The Karni Sena is irked by the rumors of a love sequence between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati. Without really clarifying with the makers, the Sena took the onus of protecting their religious sentiments in their own hands. Inspite of repeated denials by the makers about the love sequence between the two, the group barged into the sets of the movie and vandalized it.
Karni Sena calls for a bandh in Chittorgarh
It is a rather sad state of affairs that just 49 days before the release of Padmavati, the Karni Sena has called for a bandh in Chittorgarh against Padmavati. The locals are hand in glove with the Karni Sena and are supporting the bandh wholeheartedly. The tension has intensified from Rajasthan to its neighboring states like Gujarat.
Should politics interfere with cinema?
As if the Rajput Community's interference wasn't enough, now even BJP demands the release be postponed till the state elections. The BJP wrote to the Election Commission seeking a ban on the release of the movie till the Gujarat Assembly elections on December 9 and 14. They also claimed that the movie would hurt the sentiments of Kshatriya and Rajput communities.
A ray of hope for Padmavati on Twitter
Amidst all the tensions between the communities and the political parties, Padmavati's new song 'Ghoomar' featuring Deepika Padukone garners praise for 'Celebrating Rajput pride' on Twitter. Ghoomar is actually a Rajasthani folk dance, traditionally performed during auspicious occasions, mainly during bride's arrival at her husband's home. The song was released on Tuesday and has clocked over 20 million views on YouTube.
