Sanya Malhotra signed for 'The Great Indian Kitchen's Hindi remake
What's the story
Jeo Baby's highly acclaimed Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen is getting an official Hindi remake.
It will be directed by Arati Kadav, who previously had helmed Cargo. The film will be backed by Harman Baweja via his Baweja Studios.
Sanya Malhotra has been roped in to lead the remake, while Baweja will reportedly play the male lead.
This is Malhotra-Baweja's first collaboration.

What producer said of the project?
Talking of the remake, Baweja said, "There is a certain mystic quality attached to The Great Indian Kitchen. The story stays with you well after the film."
"I wanted to make it for a pan-India audience with the perfect balance between entertainment and content-driven drama. I am super excited to collaborate with Sanya (Malhotra) and Arati (Kadav)," the 41-year-old creator and producer added.

Meanwhile, Malhotra said, "As an actor, I could not have asked for a better character. I am more than excited to start working on my role because there are so many layers and nuances to it."
"It is one of the most tightly written scripts I have come across, and I am all set to to add my voice to the drama," said Kadav.

What is the original film all about?
The Great Indian Kitchen was released on January 15, 2021 on the Malayalam streaming platform Neestream.
It starred Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
The film is about a newly married woman, who refuses to follow the sexist traditions of her extended family.
It also touched upon the controversial subject of women from the menstruating age being barred from entering the Sabarimala temple.

'The Great Indian Kitchen' also getting Tamil remake
Apart from a Hindi remake, The Great Indian Kitchen is also getting a Tamil version, starring Aishwarya Rajesh and Rahul Ravindran.
Its posters were released last month and a trailer will be out soon. R Kannan has helmed the Tamil remake, while RDC Media Pvt Ltd is backing it.
